Indeed, all praise is due to God. So we praise Him, we seek His assistance, and we ask for His forgiveness. We seek refuge with God from the evils within ourselves and from the consequences of our deeds. Whoever God guides, there is no one who can misguide them, and whoever God lets astray, there is no one who can guide them.
I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, alone, without any partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.
Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, today's khutbah is about the importance of staying away from useless words and activities. As Muslims, we are encouraged to engage in good deeds and beneficial activities that will bring us closer to Allah (swt) and benefit ourselves and society.
Allah (swt) tells us in the Holy Qur'an that the believers who will attain salvation are those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and patience. This means that we must not only believe in Allah (swt) but also perform righteous deeds and advise one another to do the same.
One of the most important aspects of being a Muslim is to guard our tongues and avoid idle talk and ill speech. Allah (swt) in the Qur'an praises "those who turn away from ill speech.”
This means that we must not engage in gossip, backbiting, or spreading rumors that can harm others. We must always speak the truth and avoid saying anything that can hurt others or cause harm.
The Prophet Muhammad (saw) also emphasized the importance of avoiding useless talk and activities. He said, "A sign of a person's good observance of Islam (his piety) is to keep away from that which does not concern him."
This means that we should focus our time and energy on things that are beneficial to us and our community, and avoid wasting time on activities that are of no benefit.
I say these words of mine and I ask Allah for forgiveness

My thanks and gratitude belong to Allah the Lord of all mankind, I ask Allah to bless and bestow peace on Prophet Muhammad.
Dear brothers and sisters, it is important for us to remember that every word we utter and every action we perform should be for the sake of Allah (swt). We should strive to please Allah (swt) in everything we do, and avoid anything that displeases Him.
Allah (swt) has appointed recording angels to watch over us and record everything we do. As Allah (swt) says in the Qur'an, "And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers. Noble and recording. They know whatever you do." This means that we must always be mindful of our actions and words, as they are being recorded and will be accounted for on the Day of Judgment.
Therefore, let us make a conscious effort to avoid useless talk and activities and instead focus on doing good deeds that will benefit ourselves and society. Let us strive to be kind, compassionate, and helpful to others, and always speak the truth.
Allah also reminds us in Surat Nisa’ that “Allah does not love the public utterance of hurtful speech unless (it is done) by one to whom injustice has been done; and Allah is He who hears and knows all things.”
Unless we are oppressed and are speaking up against our oppressors, we have no need to be angry or overly impassioned. Our speech is a sign of our faith, and as Muslims we should keep our speech righteous and kind.
A man once came to the Prophet PBUH and he said, “Tell me of a word I can live by but not too long that I forget.” The Prophet said, “Avoid being angry.” The man repeated his question and the Prophet said, “Avoid being angry.”
In conclusion, I would like to remind you of the Prophet Muhammad's (saw) duaa , "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the knowledge that is of no benefit, a heart that is not humble, a soul that is not satisfied, and a duaa that is not heard."
END OF KHUTBAH DUA
Let us pray to Allah (swt) to guide us to the right path and help us avoid useless talk and activities. May Allah (swt) grant us success in this life and the Hereafter. Ameen.
Let us reflect before we take actions on the purpose of the action and whether it is truly worth it. Muslims should always be people of righteous and meaningful speech
I say these words and seek refuge in Allah for for myself and us all (Arabic not needed but: Qooli qawli hatha wastaghfirullah lee wa lakum)
I say these words and ask Allah to forgive me and you all, wa aqimu asalah.
